Trou Aux Biches – Mauritius Complete hotel review

Vista spiaggia dal mare

Three years have passed since our holiday in Mauritius with our grandson Lorenzo, and must say that the days spent at the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa remain among the best memories.

Everyone who knows me knows that, finding the best resort or hotel for our holiday, is very important.

After reading everything possible and probably even the impossible about the various resorts, my choice fell on the Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, as, being summer, the best choice was a location situated at the north of the island as less likely to rain and more sheltered from the wind. I can assure you that, once again, my choice was the right one!!!

Are you planning a holiday in a luxury resort in Mauritius? Are you looking for a detailed, honest, sincere and unsponsored review? Well you are in the right place!!!

The Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is the ideal resort for a romantic holiday as a couple or, as in our case, a family holiday with our grandson Lorenzo.

The Resort

The Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, one of the exclusive Beachcomber Hotels of Mauritius, the first eco-friendly resort on the island, is, to say the least, stunning and perfect for a family holiday, a romantic getaway or a honeymoon.

The resort, nestled in a 35-hectare tropical garden, is located on a 2 km strip of white sand that frames a crystal clear blue sea.

Located on the north west coast of the island famous for having the best climate and the perfect setting for unforgettable sunsets.

Our arrival

After a long flight we finally landed at the Mauritius Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. After clearing customs, we where met by our driver who was waiting for us to take us to the Trou Aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa, which is about 1 hour drive.

On arrival at the resort, the guest relation manager welcomed us with fresh towels and refreshing drinks. The first impression is “WOW we like it”!!!

While the staff at the reception was checking us in, I gave a look around and must say that the lobby overlooking a shallow pool with palm trees and a V-shaped straw roof was very scenographic.

Once the check-in formalities have been effected we were taken by buggy to our suite where, unfortunately, we encountered a small problem with the suite but was immediately solved by Mrs Fatima, the resort manager.

The Suites

The resort has various types of suites and villas. The Junior Suites, Tropical Junior Suites, Family Suites with 2 bedrooms (like ours), and the beautiful suites facing the sea with private pool have a truly spectacular location.

The villas are located in a more secluded area of the resort and all have private pools for maximum privacy.

Our Family Suite nestled in a colorful, sun-kissed garden is perfect in every detail offering refined comfort and an authentic tropical atmosphere. The suite looks out onto a colorful garden and is flooded with natural light.

The master bedroom, elegantly decorated with light wood furniture, its very spacious bathroom includes a dressing area and outdoor shower.

The suite also has a furnished veranda with sun lounger, table and chairs. We loved having breakfast while admiring this beautiful tropical garden!!!

A few steps away from our suite, there is the private swimming pool available for the guests of the suites in that crescent.

The suites all have satellite TV, complimentary WiFi access, safe, telephone, iron and ironing board, ceiling fan, hair dryer, mini-bar, complimentary tea and coffee making machine and access to the crescent’s private pool.

The cleaning service is very efficient and discreet: rooms are always very clean and the mini-bar is replenished every day. In addition, in the evening, while you are having dinner, the staff passes with the evening turndown service checking that everything is perfect.

The restaurants

The Trou aux Biches has six restaurants where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Personally I would not be able to indicate the best restaurant as all where excellent.

La Caravelle is an elegant restaurant, located on the edge of the Trou aux Biches beautiful strip of white sand beach, its spacious interiors lead onto a large open-air terrace from where you can admire a breathtaking view. This restaurant is very versatile, in the morning for breakfast the atmosphere is relaxed and offers an extensive buffet with show cooking area, the à la carte lunch is served in a casual venue.

For dinner, the restaurant changes its appearance and when you step in you are greeted by the sound of piano music. Before dinner, you can have a glass of champagne at its modern bar while admiring the sunset. Dinner is served à la carte in a refined and elegant ambience. If you prefer a special romantic evening or you want to celebrate a special occasion, the lovely gazebo that seems to float on the water, is the perfect solution.

The Oasis is the main restaurant and overlooks the pool and the sea. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, perfect for those who prefer a buffet style restaurant with theme nights. The extensive buffets with show cooking corner offer an array of delicious dishes able to satisfy the most difficult palates.

What should I say about the unique walk-in wine cellar accessible by a path of stones that emerge from the water, where guests can choose the wine they prefer among a wide and refined selection.

Would you like to have a romantic dinner? The private gazebo, built on a wooden pier over the water, is the perfect location to celebrate a birthday or anniversary under the starry sky of Mauritius.

Next to the restaurant there is the bar where shows are staged, such as the “Sega Dance Show” that we had the pleasure of seeing during our stay. The instruments resonate the spirit of Africa, while the songs, with lyrics in Creole, describe the Mauritian way of life. This folkloric dance has been included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage.

Il Corallo the Italian restaurant is housed under a large shingled roof like the Caravelle, the location is spectacular with a view on the beach and on the glistening ponds. The traditional recipes prepared using products of the highest quality coming directly from Italy, are an authentic breath of Mediterranean!!!!

The Deck open for lunch and dinner, located on a large wooden terrace that extends from the main pool to the beach, allows you to enjoy, under the shade of the palm trees, tasty dishes and seafood specialities.

The Blue Ginger elegant and intimate zen atmosphere, magically transports you to the heart of Thailand. Its unique open style kitchen, in the center of the dining room, allows you to appreciate the evolution of the cooks while they prepare tasty dishes of the authentic Thai cuisine.

Mahiya is the smallest of the restaurants at this resort. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you have the impression that you are in a traditional Indian Palace with its warm colors and wood panelling. Here you can taste authentic Indian cuisine served in beautiful copper plates and drink from golden tinted glasses.

The restaurant, with a touch of originality, offers the ladies, the traditional bindi, a self-adhesive jewel applied on the forehead.

Swimming pools, beach and activities

The dimensions of the Trou aux Biches are truly impressive, in fact it is immersed in a tropical garden of 35-hectares and its structure is perfectly integrated with nature. A long wooden walkway runs along the entire waterfront and connects the various crescents of the suites to the reception, swimming pool and beach. If you want to move around, you can follow the various paths or use a buggy.

The main pool framed by palm trees which reflect into it is is really beautiful. The Villas, Beach Front Suites and Senior Beach Front Suites have their own private pool, the other Suites have bigger pools of 126 m2 centered in the middle of each crescent. From the main pool you will also be able to admire unforgettable sunsets!!!!

The white sandy beach and the crystal clear sea, glimpses of nature that you see on postcards, are the ideal setting to relax and sunbathe on comfortable loungers.

Surfboards, paddle boards, pedal boats, kayaks and other water sports can be can used free of charge can be requested at the boathouse.

For the more adventurous they can let themselves be guided by the wind during a hobie cat sail, or try windsurfing or water skiing!!!!

For those, like me, who just want to sunbathe and relax or admire the colorful fish you can take a glass-bottom boat trip or, if you want to see them closer, go snorkelling… there is something for everyone.

At the Diving Center, for those who want to discover beautiful diving locations, equipment can be rented and instructors are also available for diving lessons, for beginners and also for experienced divers.

Excursions can also be booked at the hotel in order to discover the wonders of the island.

For those who just can’t give up their daily exercise, the resort offers a modern and spacious gym with state-of-the-art equipment. For those who like tennis 6 tennis courts are available, if you are a jogging fan or just like to stroll around various paths are available all around the resort.

The SPA

For me, a holiday isn’t a holiday if I can’t be pampered at the SPA. At the Trou aux Biches you will not be disappointed, the SPA covers an area of 2,897 m2 surrounded by lush tropical gardens and offers everything necessary to meet the expectations of the most demanding guests.

Since water is the recurring element in the design of this resort, the SPA could not be an exception. A long wooden walkway, built on mirrors of water, take you to the heart of the SPA where, after a massage in the shade of a fragrant frangipani tree, a magnificent swimming pool awaits you, surrounded by a huge wooden deck, where you can relax.

Final verdict

Our vacation in Mauritius was, to say the least, fantastic, relaxing and fulfilling in every way.

I must be honest, every minute spent at the Trou aux Biches was exceptional. The attention to details as well as the kindness and helpfulness of all the staff are the aspects that most distinguish and characterize the resort. The setting is stunning: crystal clear sea, infinity pool, various restaurants of the highest quality, you can’t wish for anything more!!!! If I will ever return to Mauritius I will definitely return to the Trou aux Biches.

I leave you with this unforgettable sunset.
